Machine Customers: What Nordic Enterprises Need to Know

Agentic AI creates a new customer category. B2A — Business-to-Agent — changes the logic of commerce. The design work has to start now.

B2B and B2C are familiar. B2A — Business-to-Agent — is new. Machine customers are automated purchasing agents that research, evaluate, and complete transactions without human involvement.

They do not read marketing copy. They check data. They do not respond to brand stories. They query APIs.

Why this matters now

Gartner forecasts that machine customers will account for as much as 20 percent of B2B transactions by 2030. This is not a hypothetical future — it is a design window that is open right now.

The organizations that design for algorithmic buyers first will build structural advantages that take competitors years to close.

What readiness actually means

B2A readiness is not a technological feature. It is the organizational capability to serve human and machine buyers at the same time:

  • Data quality: Is your product and service data in a machine-readable form?
  • APIs: Can automated agents get answers by querying you?
  • Certifications: Are your credentials up to date and machine-readable?

This is exactly the problem I am studying in my ongoing M.Sc. thesis research.
